The MOHE Foundation was created out of deep passion to support orphans, single-parent children and vulnerable youth in Sierra Leone, which is a country with a population of 9.12 million located in West Africa. The country ranks 184 out of 193 countries in the UNDP 2023/2024 Human Development Index, making it one of the least developed countries in the world. Added to this, the country was affected by a Civil war which lasted from 1991-2002 and the impact of that war has been far reaching. Sierra Leones poverty rate stands at as high as 74% in areas out of its capital city Freetown. Children are naturally affected by such high rates of poverty and impoverishment as parents are unemployed and can hardly afford to send them to school. Basic amenities are scarce and those who attend school struggle for school materials. Health facilities are also lacking and children are vulnerable to tropical diseases like Malaria which can be life threatening.

Founded by Mary Oladunni Hamilton Esquivel, MOHE exists to break cycles of poverty by addressing the most urgent needs—education, shelter, clothing, and healthcare. As a non-profit, non-governmental organization, MOHE is committed to providing emergency care, reintegration services, and long-term support to those who need it most. Every initiative we lead is rooted in compassion, community, and the belief that every child deserves a chance to thrive.
