Our founder
Mary Oladunni Hamilton Esquivel was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone and dedicated her life to education, justice and advocacy for children. From a very young age, Mary excelled in school. She graduated from her university at the top of her class with a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature. Mary then proceeded to acquire her Law degree in California, United States.
She joined the pool of Los Angeles Superior Court Defense Attorneys and spent her time in Los Angeles circuit in the criminal defense of Juveniles. Mary was an advocate for the rehabilitation of the young accused of crimes that could tarnish their lives forever. She fought valiantly for the reformative types of judicial retribution rather than the punitive. Throughout her career, she was highly and widely admired by many.
After retiring from Law, Mary founded the MOHE foundation out of deep commitment to helping underprivileged children and keeping hope alive for them. She believed that every child deserves access to basic necessities, safe care and protection, nurturing environment and support for them to grow and thrive.
Mary continued to spread her love and support for the children until April 12th, 2018, when she passed away. Mary left a tremendous impact in this world and her legacy will continue with the MOHE foundation. Her life’s work has been dedicated to protecting and uplifting children, and MOHE carries that legacy forward through action, advocacy, and a commitment to building brighter futures. The MOHE foundation will continue to spread her mission of “Keeping hope alive” for every child.

We provide immediate protective care for children in crisis—whether they’ve lost their caregivers or are facing unsafe living conditions. Our transitional homes offer a temporary refuge where children are nurtured, assessed, and supported while we work toward long-term solutions. We also focus on reintegrating children into safe family or community settings whenever possible, ensuring they’re not only housed but truly cared for.
Why we exist
Everything we do is rooted in compassion, purpose, and the belief that every child deserves love, care and opportunity.
